Sean, thank you very much indeed. I hadn’t explored Google Experiments before now, so you’ve pointed me in a very interesting direction there.
You wouldn’t happen to have a recommendation for the WP plugin that you mentioned to speed the process, would you? There are a couple listed on the Plugins Codex (http://wordpress.org/plugins/search.php?q=google+experiments) but neither seems to have been updated for a while, so I thought I’d double-check.
